'The main goal of this review is to explore the hypothesis of the essential role of pathogens and immune system activation in AD development and a protective role of amyloid beta peptide as a part of brain immunity. This might open the door to new approaches beyond the traditional paradigm and hopefully also new therapeutic strategies.'
