The Sting

"Intrigued by a citation-boosting service that we unravelled during our investigation, we contacted the service while undercover as a fictional author, and managed to purchase 50 citations."

@cyrilpedia whoever came up with "citation count" as a measure of success made Vilfredo Pareto's social theories in "Trattato di sociologia generale" fully applicable to academia. This will not stop science but prove Kuhn's take on it right in rather embarrassing ways. Expect in the corners of academia where scientists patiently research things no one cares about. If there were a process on the merits of work instead on the measure of "success" we'd be a bit closer to Utopia.

@cyrilpedia

Figure 3 on the citation concentration index, or c2-index for short, is quite interesting.

@albertcardona The c2-index sounds like something Jorge Hirsch would come up with.
