Search harder. It's a well known problem.Someone said hiding the SSID is the equivalent of wrapping a safe in tissue paper.
Found the answer:
To connect to a #wifi that is hidden (suppressed SSID broadcast), on #raspi you need to configure wpa_supplicant manually by adding scan_ssid = 1
