I remember our professor drawing diagrams in the board, and explaining the functions of each of the core internet protocols. TCP and IP are brilliant, having been created to handle situations with massive network failures, like a nuclear attack.

[honest, the whole project was funded by DARPA, way back in 70s. Cold War times]
