I have been working in software for 33 years now, and have no qualms about saying that AI is the biggest threat to this entire industry that has ever existed. And it's all self-inflicted. We are purposely deskilling our people and producing reams of unmanageable, unmaintainable shit code in the name of 'efficiency'. We spent years trying to make things better, now it's all dead because the board think they can do everything in ten minutes with three guys writing prompts.

@Blerkotron I've certainly have seen "realms of unmaintainable code" long before LLMs. The "guys" were the managers and the AIs were the juniors/contractors.

The problem is with the board. The AI slopification is just another turn of the "we can do everything in ten minutes just by delegating to a sweatshop".

And perhaps with the industry - that makes running such boards profitable.
