@MobileMaggie What do you mean? Movements to back up data that is stored in other countries (than the US I guess), or to back up US data in other countries?
@MobileMaggie I see… well, it seems that this initiatives uses Amazon S3 storage for instance https://glammr.us/@overholt/113974579760732110
@MobileMaggie @enroweb 👋, we from @SafeguardingResearch are doing exactly that :)
@lavaeolus @enroweb @SafeguardingResearch @mia Brilliant!! what help or resources are you recruiting? How can I help?
@MobileMaggie @lavaeolus @enroweb @SafeguardingResearch @mia useful things you can do right now:
- sign up on the forum (not everything is visible to guests) and introduce yourself there with a little about what your interests are and where you would like to help
- if you have spare storage: install a bittorrent client and start downloading & seeding some datasets
- if you're aware of datasets that might be at risk: report them so they can be captured
@MobileMaggie @lavaeolus @enroweb @SafeguardingResearch @mia
- if you want to be right at the sharp end: download some at-risk data and create a torrent for it (folks on the forum can help with the tools & skills)
- if you have web dev or technical writing skills: take a look at https://codeberg.org/Safeguarding/sciop/issues to see what needs doing there (don't be afraid to ask for details/clarifications on issues)
there's probably more but that's what I can think of right now 😂
@petrichor @lavaeolus @enroweb @SafeguardingResearch @mia brilliant - thanks!!
@MobileMaggie @lavaeolus @enroweb @SafeguardingResearch @mia
There's now a tidied list of actions you can take at https://safeguarding-research.discourse.group/t/how-to-contribute/308/4
We will aim to keep that list up to date as things evolve (especially once the coordination platform is ready to be exercised more, see also https://fedihum.org/@lavaeolus/114132085448814726)
@enroweb the latter - help US based scientists and journals make sure that vital data isn't lost.
