@blogmywiki
Exactly. Thing is, at the moment BT and co all make their profits from connecting phone calls over old bits of copper, but once it's all just yet more IP traffic why should they get anything?
@AlisonW @blogmywiki how's this going to work for my dad who doesn't have broadband, has never used a computer and doesn't have a mobile phone I wonder....
@ColinHaynes @AlisonW @blogmywiki someone turns up, installs a box, connects existing phone to box.
It's like they've thought of this.
@falken @AlisonW @blogmywiki that's good news thanks. Do you know if there will be any payment required and whether people will keep their current numbers or not?
@ColinHaynes @AlisonW @blogmywiki depends. Contact your provider. Zen gave me a choice, for instance about number, and I don't have fax machines or old house alarms to worry about.
@ColinHaynes @AlisonW @blogmywiki may be check on https://www.openreach.com/fibre-checker too. Although that claims my copper FTTC will be replaced with full FTTP a year after PSTN switch off so YMMV
@falken @AlisonW @blogmywiki I shall as ever be tech support for my techno-phobic Dad and my going-blind 94-year old step-dad. This will be fun. Thanks for that link.
