Z80 officially discontinued after 48 years:
I wonder what's the lowest possible hardware complexity and cost at which one could produce a Z80-compatible, by which I mean a drop-in physical replacement, electrically compatible.
Would it help to move complexity to software, to an emulator and/or JIT like Transmeta did?
