Tonight’s film club discussion is 1984, the one released in 1984 and starring John Hurt and Richard Burton (in his last feature film role). It’s a faithful adaptation of the book, but that also means it’s extremely grim - probably the only dystopian film we’ve watched with no victory for the hero at the end, and no humour.

I am going to suggest as well as numerical marks we give it a newspeak rating, e.g. 9/10 would be doubleplusgood.
