I'm observing a conversation where some seems to sincerely, non-trollingly believe that Wi-Fi is as fast or faster than wired Ethernet, and I'm shaking my head in disbelief.

Wi-Fi is the equivalent of plugging all your devices into a single hub that's shared with everyone within 100ft of your house.

@tek there's some extreme examples where this could be true though right?

@falken Hypothetically, Wi-Fi 7 can go up to like 50Gbps or something wild like that.

In practice, I can't get more than 1Gb in my own house unless I'm sitting right next to the AP and my neighbor isn't microwaving their dinner.

Under perfect conditions, inside a Faraday cage with zero outside interference, and ideal hardware, and perfect alignment of the radios, for perfect positioning... then, and only then, might it be not worse than Ethernet.

So, basically, a long piece of electromagnetically transparent medium with total internal reflection, or at least an insulated copper conductor?
