@neil At one point you mentioned you were moving away from Nextcloud and that the reasons were a matter for another blog post [¹]. Have I missed that or is it not yet another time?

@edavies I've not written it yet :(

But the gist is that (a) sync was increasingly unreliable, and (b) I wanted smaller, simpler software.

@neil
Could I ask in what way you find the sync unreliable? I'm wondering if they match up with my experiences.

@neil @jamesb @edavies happily using Nextcloud here with no memcache and apart from the moan in the admin, no issues.

@falken @jamesb @edavies

Sadly not the case for me - but Syncthing is working just fine :)

@neil @falken @jamesb @edavies I tried nextcloud for a minute. But it was a lot of stuff to manage and worry about. And it really didn't do it for me for the things I cared about:

ad-hoc photo sharing with random people. (I still use google)... and lately localsend.org web... magic!

and ad-hoc video chat... it was terrible. I now use chitchatter.im in a pinch.

and sync... a syncthing client on android my photos show up on my PC, and that's simple to understand and administer.

@poleguy @neil @jamesb @edavies In do use some of the other things Nextcloud has, like GPS trace archives so it's worth the complexity.
