I never connect my appliances (e.g. TV) to wifi. But how do I know it's not attempting to find open wifi and the connecting to those? What happens when appliances can connect to cell data whether we want them to or not?
@AlSweigart what happens when TV start requiring an Internet connection?
I'd consider such a TV broken and hand it back in where I bought it, to either be repaired or I want my money back.
