I had a good time at #OggCamp at the weekend. There were a few familiar faces, but there was a poll during the intro session where the presenter asked for how many people it was their first time, and between 25%-33% raised their hand, which made for a nice mix.

Polarian (from the XSF) wanted to give talk about Jabber / #XMPP, and I said I would help 😨 .

We originally wanted to have an XMPP stand at EMFCamp, but neither of us got tickets 😭
We managed to get some slides together which we when presented on the Sunday at OggCamp instead.

I tried to record it here: pt.gogreenit.net/w/7YzvYkDJVM1 and the slides (as you can't really see them on the video 😡) are here: codeberg.org/chewie/OggCamp-20, but the funky little USB-C wireless mics worked nicely with my phone!

Note to self for next time - reduce the contrast between the foreground and background of the slides if you want to record it with your phone...

#Jabber #Unconference

@chewie I might consider offering optional slide capture/streaming in the breakout rooms for those who (and to more platforms) at the next OggCamp if there is sufficient interest. Watch this space!

@garythewilliams cool!

I wanted to try as I have a bored peeertube server and the mic system I bought for oggcamp last time, but never used as the organisers didn't seem to be interested in me recording anything, even though they weren't doing it themselves either....

@falken @chewie @garythewilliams I had a PeerTube channel set up but didn’t want to add complexity to the OBS setup. Personal feeling is that not having streaming for the unconference is “ok” - reduces stress on potentially first-time speakers who just want to talk to a small group about their idea, and it’s not scheduled so there’s less to try to plan for.

@andypiper @falken @chewie in my head it would be very much “on request” but definitely adds potential load to the team!

I’m happy to take on the task of mirroring the videos to a PeerTube instance if one is available.

We didn’t know what connectivity we were heading in to inside the venue (and it did turn out to be unstable), so sticking with a single platform was the decision I took this year

@garythewilliams @andypiper @chewie 100% right call, don't get me wrong. Advantage of going to same venue next time is there is a bit more knowledge about what they can and can't provide

@falken @andypiper @chewie over to next years organisers, but I’m certainly happy to provide the time and equipment again :-)

@garythewilliams yep I'll message you about the existing content later

@garythewilliams @andypiper @falken fair enough. Even it if isn't streamed, a recording to upload and release later would also be useful I feel - if nothing else, there were some talks that clashed, so it would be nice to be able to watch the missed ones later.

@andypiper @falken @garythewilliams sensible, but an option to record if people wanted it would be good...

@chewie @falken @garythewilliams sure, that seems like something the event might be able to offer, resource permitting.

@andypiper @falken @garythewilliams and also a good excuse for newbies to learn OBS etc, like they do at CCC events - I certainly would find it useful/fun

@chewie @falken I was the organiser in 2024 and I don’t recall this message getting to me, so apologies for that. We’d of course have to have gotten consent from the speakers in advance too, so doing something on the day wouldn’t have been feasible unfortunately

@garythewilliams @chewie oh, for sure. On the day you do not want to be trying to do anything like this, all needs to be setup in advance :-)
