@finlayd interesting though somewhat depressing. "Failure is good for you" is hardly an inspirational message!

@gpollara I think that failure is crucial in developing resilience and perseverance from when we are children. Not a new idea. Inspirational to those who just missed out on a grant - what you learn from this will make you a better scienctist

@finlayd I actually agree with all that. I guess it's just that as kids you're not aware of that quite so clearly!

Also, the crucial point here is that it's near misses doing well. It probably shows the merit of reviewing and revising work. First drafts are always the worst!
