I dont think people were choosing it based on the list, I asked. I think what happened was people saw the post, and they were curious enough to look up QOTO, probably to decide if they wanted to block us or not. Once they reviewed us and found out we are one of the most mutually respectful instances around it appealed to many people and they joined. At least of the people I asked that seemed to be the case.
The list was being passed around as a list of "decent less censorship hungry instances". Basically the day he started posting it every where other people posted it saying "list of good instances".
