I had an idea and a proposal for an anti-censorship cooperative among the free speech instances. It is just an idea, not sure if i support it yet. but would be curious to hear any feedback.. the idea goes something like this.

Any instance can get into the cooperative so long as they pledge to a few rules

1) personal suspensions and silencing is permitted.

2) Ban circumvention will not be allowed and enforced. If a person from one instance blocks someone and makes it clear they do not wish to be contacted, and a user creates another account to circumvent this personal block then that user will be banned.

3) no instance is allowed to suspend any other instance within the cooperative.

4) any server that suspends/blocks any instance inside the cooperative must be blocked/suspended by all other members of the cooperative in response.

5) any instance not following these rules will be kicked out of the cooperative.

The purpose here would be to ensure that any instance which has a policy of frivilously blocking other instances without due process or cause will be punished by loosing their voice throughout the larger federated community.

I am a software coder. Presuming this idea is something that gains support and momentum I'd even be willing to modify the mastodon source code to ensure it can be executed effectively through technical means.

In my proposal there would be no political conditions on it whatsoever. Just dont ban people, and dont circumvent bans. Otherwise both liberal and conservative instances will both be welcomed. An instance cant be rejected for personal reasons.

The cooperative that I propose wouldnt be male oriented or have any specific male leadership. It would be decentralized much as the fediverse itself is, relying on technology, rather than humans, to ensure the mutually agreed upon rules would work.

As with any decentralized system the presence of a feminist instance would serve to strengthen the support for feale oriented instances in the collective since it ensures you have more of a voice than you would alone.

@darwi_odrade

I agree they should. I'm not suggesting they should be forbidden.

What I am suggesting is that instances who do not want to allow other instances to have a voice should not have one of their own.

Why should we listen to instances that wont listen to us in return. Allow two way communication or none.

Follow

@darwi_odrade

You could still follow them and listen to them. If this is done through silencing rather than suspension individuals can still follow each other. It ust wont show up in the federated feed.

@darwi_odrade

Shadow ban implies the person doesn't know their banned. This would be public and any group correcting their behavior could reenter the fediverse.

@darwi_odrade

By defederating with them we would be leaving them alone, almost by definition.
