I have a few doubts which I know you may not have answers for, but I'd be interested to see how (if at all) you are thinking about it
1. Gab created it's own instance which was why you were able to blacklist them. What happens if trolls infiltrate Mastodonsocial enmasse
a. How would paid toots' content play out
b. What fact checking tools are available
c. Since usernames aren't unique across instances how do we deal with new ways of phishing

Well long story short, right now there are no technical solutions.
With that said since QOTO is a STEM instance our users tend to be fairly science oriented and dont really tolerate misinformation well. We rarely get people posting "fake news" but when we do they largely get ignored by the QOTO community and appear to go away after a few days of no one following r talking to them.
So seems so far the natural demographic of our community seems to protect us fairly well from that possibility.
