The commercial equivalent is: Fail fast, fail cheap, fail often.
The sooner you get eyeballs, the sooner you get feedback. That allows pivoting before investing (time,effort,money) deeply. It allows you to benchmark your thesis. Allows you to find out what your users want, prioritize and focus on what they find important. Rather than investing in what you assume they'll find important (and to certainly find out you were wrong)
@freemo but being opensource means that if it's undercut you win twice.
It means someone else did the work for you, for free. You now have what you needed without having to develop or research it.
And if the undercutter did not Opensource their work, nothing is lost: you still have the most important feature and they don't.
