@snow At Mastodon, I think it is difficult to eliminate only the NSFW image itself (I feel that there was a function that the administrator can keep the media flowing from a specific server as a link only display.). I think it is easier for individuals to do MUTE OR BLOCK itself for each account or server themselves (The example in the image I didn't do, I like it.).

@snow I also processed "Hide everything from my.dirtyhobby.xyz" in an instant too! :100a: In the other, "sinblr.com", "", "lewd.website" and "pawoo.net" etc… Certainly there are a little! :banhammer:

@snow @puzzl Hello Snow and welcome to Qoto!

I am glad you got assistance from Puzzl, as I was in sleepland for a while. Yes, this is one of the great things in Mastodon -- that every user has the ability to selectively Block any user, or even a whole instance, that they object to.

There are some annoying people, and people who try to make moeny merchandising erotic images and services. It's good that these have migrated to a few servers that are easily identified and blocked, as you have already done.

In some cases there are images that are worrisome to people in many jurisdictions -- as they might depict children in unpleasant ways.

The mastodon.social instance, the home of the project developr and one of the largest ones around, blocks all media, images from pawoo.net due to that.

I would just mention that if you do block that whole server you would lose access to one of my favourite accounts - the totally innocent Cat Posting Bot @catpostingbot

If you have any questions, please ask.

We have some guides for new users available too, if you like.

If you are new to using Mastodon, there's a good guide here: lifehacker.com/a-beginner-s-gu

We also have another new users guide, posted here : write.tedomum.net/rgx/suggesti

Casey Rollins made a video to explain the Fediverse, here :

"I made this video awhile back to help explain how the works."

Have a good day!

@snow We as users can certainlu voice our opinions. The culture there in Japan is certainly different, there are things alloweed there that would be jail bait in a western country.

One of the main reasons instances were concerned about some of the Asian instances - and many blocked them wholesale, just to avoid having copies of those media files in their own servers (as normally, copies of images end up cached locally in many places because someone in that instance is following a remote user).

There is a good article I found the other day that you might enjoy reading - it explains some of this and the admins reactions to it, the culture in Japan.

@snow

While I have no interestest in any form of hentai myself and can understand why someone might not want it or lolicon in their feed due to NSFW issues I have to side with the japanese on this one. They are drawings, no one is harmed, I see it as a non-issue. The reason child pornography in photos is illegal is obvious, because it brings harm to the children depicted, it should be illegal. But to make drawings "illegal" just stinks of censorship for the wrong reasons.

@design_RG

@snow If someone posts something that is a guide to pedophilia then yea, I agree, that is harmful and should be shunned. But that doesnt mean its a representation of everyone who is into the art, and certainly not of the ones I met.

Specifically on mastodon i have two people I follow who seem to enjoy lolicon, they occasionally post memes about it (though thankfully dont share the lolicon itself as i keep my feed SFW). He has never shared anything to suggest he would actually support real life pedophilia and from my expiernce the vast majority of people into lolicon would find pedophila abhorrent. In fact most of the people in that scene do not even equate it with real life children.

@snow If its a drawing, naked, and sexual, its hard for me to see who is being harmed by that. Its distasteful but not harmful.

@snow Well its certainbly not appropriate for kids to see, sure. But neither is most of the content on the internet.

@snow I've never seen a legit pedo post in the feed so far thankfully. So it cant be that common.

@snow I see Pawoo pass by in the federated feed from time to time. While I dont doubt it occasionally shows up (and pawoo should be acting in those cases!) my point is, it isnt the majority or common since the vast majority of what I see from pawoo is not of that nature. We cant label a whole group based on the actions of a minority.

@freemo Pawoo, unknown to most people, is really the largest Mastodon instance in the world (I don't count the gab silo, as they are isolated and just coopted the platform to solve their problem with thei clients being banned in the two big app stores).

600 Thousand users, they are about 1.5 times the size of the mammoth mastodon.social we all think of as the Mothership.
