If we want to keep moderating this server effectively and allow all languages here (my preference) I think we really desperately need an inline translating service of some kind. I'm going to add it to my todo for new features to look into. I get increasingly worried as there are more and more posts I cant read and therefore makes it hard to be proactive in my moderation (which is just as important even on a server that doesnt have the need for such moderation)

@freemo slang is a huge problem for machine translation, and people on mastodon tend to use a lot of it. For example, here's that previous sentence machine translated to Dutch:
jargon is een enorm probleem voor machinevertaling, en mensen op mastodon hebben de neiging er veel van te gebruiken.
It gets a rough view of what's going on, but the most reliable way is going to involve getting extra humans involved. Preferably ones that know the languages you want to moderate.
@cadey The question isnt if it is perfect. The question is am I closer to understanding the original message by reading the original (of which i dont know the language and wont understand at all), or for a translation (which might be wildly inaccurate at times but other times correct to varying degrees). Obviously I'd say the latter so it isnt useless, especially not for a moderator who isnt likely to ever act outright (other than silence a post) without first talking to the person (in english) to discuss any suspected posts. So in that respect it would still be useful and effective.
