But please remember that by and large, on the fediverse, federation is opt-out, not opt-in - in other words, admins have to actively choose to defederate from new instances. Until earlier this afternoon, lots of very good instances would have been on that list because we didn't know nazi dot social existed to defederate from.

@noelle @dragon @crash @undefined @Mae @MxCraven @cadence Admin of QOTO here... wow really, until this very moment I have not even heard of nazi.social and there hasnt been a single report against anyone from our instance interacting with them in any way.
Have you not considered that you should alert the admin **first** if there is a problem and not just right to defederating a whole instance without even bothering to make a report.
Moreover, even if you do wish to defederate, making a report means they have a chance to solve what you clearly feel is inappropriate behavior, so its rather disingenuous not to.
A few points from QOTO side to help you decide if you wish to defederate from us..
1) We have never had a single user that I am aware of follow, share, or speak with anyone from that instance. If they did their interaction maybe have been to yell at them and call them deplorable, or something that would otherwise be a perfectly acceptable interaction (ie not supporting the instance or their purpose).
2) We wanted to start blocking instances years ago during the great GAB block issue, many of our moderators supported a GAB block. But as anyone in the LGBT community knows from that time period we had a huge LGBT mass migration to our servers at the time (which I didnt understand at first) and when we opened it up to the group to decide ultimately it was the LGBT community who strongly urged us not to defederate from instances such as these.
The case that the LGBT community here made at the time is that most of them migrated to our server because so many pro-LGBT spaces were blocking GAB and similar servers and they wanted a place where they could monitor accounts freely for doxxing and other threats to their community and share that with the appropriate targets, for their own protection. Since most servers that had permissive federation policies were not LGBT friendly they felt QOTO was the only place they could go and be safe on our local server and have access to that information.
It cost us as a server (and still does), some servers (as we see in this thread) have defederated for our choice to defend the wishes and safety of our LGBT community, that is a sacrifice I do not regret and continue to defend. We have even added features specifically with their concerns in mind (for example their ability to get notified when someone on these servers posts but without needing to actually follow the user, to protect their identity and that they are watching).
3) We have very strict no-hate speech rules, and sharing or promoting anything from nazi.social would get one of our users banned
@freemo @noelle @dragon @crash @Mae @MxCraven @cadence @00dani @maloki I would actually even say that defederating them is bad. While the instance exists it is easy to sort good from bad.
I also don't think throwing them out of the federation will make them improve or anything. Instead signal them to authorities
