Since everyone wants to talk about taking away gun rights again...

🎓 Doc Freemo :jpf: 🇳🇱
@hansw@mastodon.social Great I think that will giveus a foundation to work with. So Now ill provide some data, let me explain a bit how the grange...

@freemo No. They want to take away automatic weapons from people with mental issues.

People like you and me will be happy owners of the needed rocket launchers for personal defense against bears.

@pthenq1 No, what the hell are you talking about... automatic weapons have been illegal since the 70s.

@freemo They said nothing about "taking away gun rights again". But if you are going to twist what they said, why could I not twist what you said? 👀

@pthenq1 yes they did, they are talking about banning certain types of guns, therefore taking away our right to access to those guns.

@freemo okay. I support the right of get weapons.

Still, nobody can get always the guns they want. Today, for example, I would like portable small atomic bombs. You know, the ones handy to blow up 1 or 2 blocks.

They do not let us put our hands on that... and other weapons.

@pthenq1 Its even illegal for nations to have nuclear weapons, even the ones that have it arent allowed to as they were required to disarm ages ago and didnt... so no, bad example buddy.

@freemo same story. When/If they declare some weapon illegal and you have it, you will have to surrender it.

Other than that, perhaps someone wants a semiautomatic to defend himself from bears.

I want a nuclear mini-nuke to combat field mices. We are all tuned against dangerous environments... :awesome:

@pthenq1 @freemo the constitution bans ex post facto laws. since guns are property (and not under some 'license' shitbaggery like the losers in canada) it can't be "bought back" without basically violating the constitution.
@pthenq1 @freemo our combination of having an absolute right to keep and bear arms has been quite a thorn which is why they spend so much effort on scare tactics and "extreme risk warrants" to find ways to seize them without having to admit to seizing them.

@icedquinn @freemo aaaaaanyway, the idea that they are having that could pass the Congress is not banning some weapons (and of course they are proposals like that) but doing more background checks.

On that point, I am on favor.

There are people that cannot operate planes, or dangerous machines. Something similar should happen with weapons.

@pthenq1

not sure how you can do "more" background checks.. they already do background checks on all the shit a background check can cover (criminal past, parking tickets, outstanding debt)... what are they proposing to check my background twice? lol

@icedquinn

@freemo They should check more on mental stability for example. Or if the person is a psychopath (they cannot feel remorse) or psychotic (they cannot perceive reality correctly). Those people should not be able to carry weapons.

So we all could have guns. Because we know when to shoot or not (they don't)

@icedquinn

@pthenq1 @freemo @icedquinn The methods of detecting mental illness are hardly objective & can easily be co-opted for ulterior political, moral, or social ends.

@smithy They are very understood. Anything different of a neurotic (with or without issues) should not have weapons. @icedquinn @freemo

Follow

@pthenq1

So you are back to the idea that you penalize people who think they have a mental condition and seek psychiatric help by perminantly taking away their right to guns for life.. and you think this is a good idea.

All your doing is creating a situation where people with mental disorders need to hide it at all costs and never seek help or a psychiatrist for it because they dont want to loose their right to self protection...

It is a horrific idea and im not sure why you dont get that.

@smithy @icedquinn

@freemo or they just go "you are a trump supporter and i am a leftist psychologist, so i will call you a psychopath. now you are a pseudocriminal. i sure do love my degree."

@pthenq1 @smithy
@icedquinn @freemo @pthenq1 Exactly - the nature of these illnesses might be conceptually determined, but what counts as an empirical expression/symptom is much more open-ended & flexible

@freemo I did not say that. If someone looks for help or not is different if that person is neurotic or not.
