@vital876@mastodon.social Hard to say if the tears were fake or not. I agree his arms seemed "awkward" but to me that is what made the tears look real. A person who is really crying and hyperventilating will look quite awkward I find.

As for the events of the incident. He was attacked by a mob that threw stuff at him, screamed about killing him, assaulted him, and chased him some distance. He kept screaming "friendly" as he ran. He only shot when he seemed to have no other choice and strictly in self defense.

IMO based on the videos it is an obvious case of his innocence.

@icedquinn

Personally im not sure why him crying or not should have any impact on the case anyway.

@vital876@mastodon.social

@freemo @vital876 however had he just deadpanned it, then that too would have been cited as "see he's not even remorseful he just executed this guy and doesn't even care" which leads me back to
> there is an authorized way to have an emotional response
@icedquinn @vital876 @freemo

the best is seeing people complain that it doesn't look right, when they're obviously basing it off entertainment they've watched
@histoire @freemo @vital876 there actually is a whole meta for how you are supposed to show up and look properly pitiful to the jury. random people are exceptionally bad at understanding things.

in the book Thinking Fast and Slow there is a chapter where they examine adults estimating the future careers of babies and found that they tended to apply established stereotypes in reverse. The predictions were exceptionally bad. There is a platonic form of how something should be in people's heads and its often formed by basically nothing, and then you are compared to this model.

now sometimes that model is properly conditioned (people who have been around grief and hardship know what the faces of people in pain look like, so they actually might be familiar with fake tears) but.. yeah.

there are people who are just sarcastic as a personality and juries hate that, there are kuuderes and juries don't like them, and there's chad latino sexy action star types who are total sociopaths but they play the model very well.
@histoire @freemo @vital876 in economics there is an amusing quip that they are very good at making rational models. unfortunately the only people who act perfectly rationally are psychopaths.
@icedquinn @vital876 @freemo

that quip is correct

they *are* rational about achieving their goals

their goals are just retarded
@histoire @freemo @vital876 psychopathy is basically when you forget to put the cost function in the pathfinder so it deems robbing the liquor store is the most efficient way to get money for dinner.

@histoire

Anyone who has ever seen someone cry in a truely distressing and life threatening situation would know it doesnt look like the sort of crocodile tears people expect on TV. The way he cried is exactly what I'd expect of someone who is scared to death and remorseful for being int he situation at all.
