The thing about people who hate free speech (and there are a lot) is that they arent upset that they need to **hear** speech they dislike, they are upset that other people are able to hear it (or say it for that matter).

So while it may seem a reasonable solution to me or you for them to just go to a moderated instance in their eyes it isnt fixing the issue that there are unmoderated servers out there.

@r000t

@freemo @Hyolobrika @r000t I don't think that's the case, I think it's just criticism of the content on unmoderated instances. I don't know if I've ever interacted with people that are against the moderation system of fedi (moderating instances you federate with, on an instance with moderators that suit your needs)

@straw

Then you havent been on the fedi long. The isolate GAB movement is a prime example. People werent just content with being on servers that moderated GAB, they demanded they only federate with servers that themselves blocked GAB, and that they do the same. Effectively dictating how other servers federated and not just the content a server itself produced.

@Hyolobrika@berserker.town @r000t

@freemo @Hyolobrika @r000t well, that's just federating with instances that don't associate with Gab, which is fine in my view, if you don't want to see that content

@straw

no it has nothing to do with seeing the content. If your server blocks GAB and you federate with an instance that associates with GAB, then you as a server still cant see GAB, even if a user from over there were to boost the content from GAB you wouldnt see it. So clearly the motivation goes beyond not wanting to see GAB content. The point is to take the voice away from GAB so **others** cant see it
