If you had Thanos ability to snap your fingers and kill some portion of people by blinking them painlessly out of existence, would you?

@freemo

All three are authoritarian as fuck, so no.

> Yes, eliminate all people I think are evil.

It's straightforward authoritarianism, i don't hold the objective truth about who is evil.

> Yes, eliminate people the majority think are evil

Majority also do not possess objective truth, and it is unethical to impose their will on everyone, especially when it comes to mass murder.

> Yes, eliminate people who objectively cause harm

This is essentially the same as #1. Most of the time people don't separate "i subjectively believe this person is evil" and "i believe this person is objectively causing harm". Many people believe that gay people "objectively cause harm", these people aren't lying or trying to manipulate, they just genuinely think it's true.

...
If instead of just thanos' superpower, you gave me a magic oracle box that would predict with 100% accuracy who would do more damage, i might consider listening to its suggestions.

@lonelyowl

I mostly agree, the interesting option is #3... I thik your perspective is really trying to say "There is no objective measure".. i think that is debatable but we must agree that what is the objective measure is itself a matter of opinion. Its just that one of those opinions is the right one, good luck figuring out which :)

@freemo

> There is no objective measure

No, see - this is why i added the note about the "magic oracle that will predict everything". There is an objective truth about who will cause more harm (for a certain belief system with defined terminal values, like reducing suffering is important, human life is important, etc.)
What i said is "humans aren't AGIs". Humans are dumb. I don't think i personally can figure out this objective truth, as well as any other person.

Does your #3 option implies that you will have an objective 100% accurate predictions about who will cause more death and suffering? Then it's worth at least thinking about.
However, using the thanos' superpower in itself would cause a lot of murders, so probably it would kill you in the first place. After all, for building the world without suffering, no murder is required in ideal case. Any death is loss, so it's better to not use weapons of mass destruction.

@freemo Problem is that "Evil" is a non-objective term, likewise "Harm".

A 5 choice could be "Causing ME harm", as that is subjectively accurate (to me).
