#USAPolitics. Quit saying the USA is the richest country. It is the country where some of the richest people live. Only because they rigged the tax code for themselves. Otherwise, they would live somewhere else.

@timo21 So what your saying is we are the richest country, and the reason is our tax code.. Though im sure you imply it isnt a good thing.

Reminder, mroe than half of the top richest people in america were not born rich. They come from middle class and below homes.

@freemo Don't put words in my mouth. Especially stupid words.

@timo21

That was the joke, obviously. They were stupid on purpose, for comedic effect.

@freemo Sorry. I'm a very literal person. I'm speaking of the common good. The USA rich have dissociated themselves from the common good. A country is a shared endeavor of which they are have withdrawn themselves.

@timo21

Thats an awefully big blanket statement that is just simply not true of all of the rich, and frankly quite rude to a group of people many of whom have given back in ways that are far more generous than most.

As with any group there will be selfish assholes, as well as very generous people. To paint everyone with the same brush simply for having been successful, with no care for what they did or didnt give back is.. well, hyperbolic and short sighted to say the least.

That said, againit was largely meant to be a joke with a hint of truth. But yea if you want to discuss it seriously I dont mind. But villanizing someone **only** for being successful is a bad look to say the least.

@freemo Once again, you are putting words in my mouth. I didn't say any of that. I remember when trades people & factory workers could afford a boat & an RV, when wages were fair, now they are not. I remember when there were not many homeless families, & if there were, agencies had enough staff to help them. The current environment is because the rich have dissociated themselves from the USA, are no longer interested in the common good. They want to get rid of social security, for instance.

@timo21 You absolutely did make a negative blanket statement about all rich people in the USA:

> The USA rich have dissociated themselves from the common good. A country is a shared endeavor of which they are have withdrawn themselves.

Trades people still can afford a boat, assuming its a skilled trade. highly trained welders for example make 6 figures in the USA, more than enough for a boat.

> The current environment is because the rich have dissociated themselves from the USA, are no longer interested in the common good. They want to get rid of social security, for instance.

Some rich want to get rid of social security, some dont, there you go making blanked statements again about the rich.

No the problem arent "the rich", the problem is trying to lump everyone into a group that isnt you and blame them.

No matter how much you want to reduce the world to us vs them it just isnt the reality and the world is far more nuanced than the picture your trying to paint, and its not a healthy perspective IMO.

To be clear I have nothing against you personally, I think you mean well. But this is a harmful take, and a bad one.

@freemo The world is not that nuanced. The facts on the ground do not back up nuance. People have somewhere to live, something to eat, or they don't. That's very clear cut. The common good demands they be taken care of, the USA wealthy, by their actions, disagree. It's there for all to see.
