What is the connection between native #Spanish speakers and having a motor-mouth? I've noticed that lots of folks who started out speaking Spanish speak very very quickly, often leaving no gap between words and blurring them together, no matter which language they're currently speaking.

Is it a cultural thing (most Spanish speakers I know come from Central American hispanic families), or is it something to do with the mother tongue itself?

@louis From a casual observation there does appear to be a strong connection to the native language.

That said I vaguely remember some study that showed languages that produce sounds quickly do not correlate to greater information exchange. Basically all people exchange information largely at the same rate but in some languages that requires more "sounds per idea" than in others, those languages tend to sound like they are talking quickly.
