Gerrymandering used often for political manipulation of electoral district boundaries with the intent of creating undue advantage for a party, group, or socio-economic class within the constituency.

Four tactics are used in gerrymandering:

"cracking" (i.e. diluting the voting power of the opposing party's supporters across many districts)

"packing" (concentrating the opposing party's voting power in one district to reduce their voting power in other districts).

"Hijacking" redraws two districts in such a way as to force two incumbents to run against each other in one district, ensuring that one of them will be eliminated.

"Kidnapping" moves an incumbent's home address into another district. Re-election can become more difficult when the incumbent no longer resides in the district, or possibly faces re-election from a new district with a new voter base.
