To say "The mainstream media is failing us" is to wrongly presume that the mainstream media exists to inform and educate us, and not indoctrinate us with the worldview necessary to maximize benefit and comfort for the criminally wealthy.
The mainstream media is in fact succeeding at its' intended goal.
corporate press. and even the NPR show #PlanetMoney admits that the underwriting that funds public media is not very different from advertising.

Not far from conditional giving / bribery / paying for it and often regardless of receivers believing in it or not since the constant priority is staying alive / afloat while everything gets more expensive / more conditional deliberately forcing bad choices or eating less as the real alternative.
I'm currently eating less in many ways.
