Here we go again with useless disclaimers in social media.
No one - human or bot - is going to adhere to this shit. It's not worth the time it takes to copy and paste in your bio.
yes assume they don't care or adhere to it, but don't just give it up for free either - you put there evidence you put effort to say "I don't like this shit or agree to it"...
@yairmohr Ok this is how I see it.
The least is putting something there - symbolic or not, used of not.
It's not even measured by that but how you conduct your info and put a sign or something preventative (because anyway you and I never know or can see what they do) but yes assume they don't care, but don't just give it up for free either - you put there evidence you put effort to say "I don't like this shit or agree to it"...
else you can end up looking like you don't care and fine with it
⬆️ BIG DIFFERENCE I'm sure you agree)
Not saying there is a perfect look at the end of all this data business but the raping or equivalent is something else...
and not acting like common folk that doesn't put any effort is also important.
Just talk isn't going to work+ even if you're ignored it's reckless not to simply say NO because you seem like you're ok with it instead)...
@yairmohr I like that you seem to talk direct - so let me say MASTODON IS BEING DATA SCRAPED (you find a copy in google search regularly) which might be new to you or no but I'm not happy about it - SO by your own logic if they don't give a fuck, just being on Mastodon counts for less (and getting almost to near-0 as time goes on unless people DO SOMETHING ABOUT DATA-SCRAPING.)
I think you probably are doing something - but if your logic is do less or near-0 about it (if that's the case) you are out of your fucking mind that just being on Mastodon is going to help while external forces close in and people rely on what Mastodon started out as but the masses just turned it into Twitter with YouTube and Google links by the millions just the same on mass-media, feeding all the same big websites... and Gargron telling me he shouldn't even recommend better link (#nitter / #invidious etc) so from top down this is just another feeder to those BigTech / Newspaper / American silicon valley type things... People might just expect to move to 'the next thing' only when it gets unbearable and beyond repair (which is why I even contacted people to say "Not another ad-farm platform please using your platform and all these link?" or "your movement is only as strong as you users".
So you probably know some of this from writing in this kind of arena - but isn't it true YOU HAVE TO FIGHT / DEFEND YOUR GROUND EARLIER?. If you're doing that in some other way please say - please educate us.
Really I would like to learn.
Else JUST TALKING ABOUT IT is also kinda of without action (and can be even worse).
Even for the people who agree and are just like you talking only, not putting NO CONSENT for things, that is also limited / useless but at least easy to do and visually evident / saying no does have legal weight... ok it might not come down to that by give it a chance... NOT DOING has no weight. and not doing it is reckless - almost letting them in with that logic of why lock the door if they get in through the window. You got to make is harder or clearer or check yourself with the minimal ...
Otherwise you almost sound like a Facebook person to say "why bother clicking off these options or even coming off Facebook, they still data scrape elsewhere etc". At least to back up what you talk about and do your side and you bit
Mastodon without us trying is going down, and yes it doesn't help that admins or developers don't seem to mind the data-scraping as they could even add it in the footer of the Mastodon template and one of the instance could sue one day with all the evidence...
We need to prep for that too so doing the right way helps even if we don't know how things are going to be used for our benefit.
If you don't say NO you can seem like you're ok with it instead...
@yairmohr @Gargron I'm positive even in the negative spectrum :)
I think what you say also applies to you... and doesn't make any ground in reply. Took me very little time and not much worse if more clearer to you (this conversation) and others (who discussed or copy parts of it / customized it)
And you didn't answer what you're doing about it more specifically and how if you don't say NO at least then it's not clear... yes?
I'm assuming longer-text is going to be a problem for you which is generally a problem in itself... but I don't assume you don't care... but what you are doing isn't clear either...
@yairmohr @Gargron I wonder how Gargron and others manage all these mentions - does anyone know?
Not all the mentions and topics are directed to him directly and all that important - so how does one manage influx when one is a popular person more than block people etc?
Can you block whole threads or mute someone for a short time or how to manage lots of legit comments and even lots of praise?)
@freeschool @Gargron Like I said, as a journalist I constantly try to raise awareness to such things, calling out culprits and encouraging smart choices to avoid it as much as possible. Truth is when you choose to put something out there, it's going to get... well - out there. The only way to keep your stuff private is shutting up. That's how it's always been and tech hasn't changed it. Whether it's gossip or AI - the only difference is your own biases.
@yairmohr Agree. Although the "shutting up" method is a similar component part to a lot of other labels / regimes / systems... so to a certain extent works, but I feel it's not enough from encroaching systems or even normal everyday stuff...
One can't "shut up" to some extent, unless they become unhuman or dead...
and on top I think many people don't mind that.
Let me know when you have significantly something more.
@yairmohr Ok I'd like 10 examples of journalism not on your new-defi account - that would be good...
I actually think you might have something too I even boosted a too... BUT your Fediverse SHOUTS OF A EUROVISION FAN (FINE), MAINSTREAM TECH STUFF (HMM). ISRAEL...
So where are you doing 'journalism' and what else about?!
I want to differential the normal stuff (what we all do) and your stuff (and it being ok if that's the same similar stuff almost but you get paid somehow)... if you don't mind a bit of clarity what you actually do?
@freeschool I like that you're so worked up about it. I thought I might be the last person who cares.
But being worked up doesn't make you right. You admit nobody will adhere to such disclaimers, but claim it's better than doing nothing. Guess what - it's worse than doing nothing, because it gives you a false sense you're doing something when you're not.
And your logic is either flawed or hypocritical - you oppose to scratping your own content, but condemn @Gargron for NOT scraping big tech.
