At a personal level, maybe using algo-driven & ad-supported social media seems fine. That's really what most media is. Radio & TV have always done this, deciding what comes next. Most streaming options will auto play something now too. Fine.
The problem is at the collective level. A world where a few corporations have so much control over what everyone pays attention to is not a healthy society. It's bad for democracy. Breaking this cycle is why the #fediverse matters. Here, we decide together.
@wjmaggos I am on an instance run as a co-op, with annual payments to cover operating expenses. I prefer that model personally. But other people may prefer instances that are funded by advertising; we shouldn't condemn users who choose that trade-off.

I think this is the bottom line for a lot of people - they have awareness in so many things similar to adverts (like money itself) to sort out.
Money is also a big issue tied in - for example my suggestion is to have our own payment system like my Mastodon Payments idea....

The psychology is typically that "I and many don't want to pay for anything..." for various important legit reasons, not only because I'm cheap/eco based but importantly the whole money chain is costing us more (money is expensive itself as loans constantly dilute the existing meaning 'your' 100 is no longer actually 100) and in many more ways this is messing with everything else (like working more for nothing) as banks are another kind of bigtech medium and false foundation of all human life!

This is really difficult to solve in one go but even as 'tomorrow' the aim I feel points to these things (adverts, money) to tie in with everything else solved (Mastodon Social as better Media / Data) so whoever works on whatever part I think these are main parts:
better/safe/wanted ads,
better/safer money
better work and value system
⬆️ will be the way to go to break the chains....

So I do reject most money all the time - therefore I'm out of most games including:
➡️ work (can't even give that free which highlights our social level)
➡️ adverts (i dod this personally on Mastodon trying to unite almost scared-of-my-shadow people).
I appreciate I can use existing system or through still tied but it's still all needed for *transition* (over-lapping downa and up curve)
Really we should be preparing for everything locked off anyway and just do our own thing like Mastodon in everything.
MORE ON MONEY / SELLING OURSELVES TO UNCARING SYSTEMS
Ideally I would not want anyone to sell themselves and the fact they have to just to stay alive is the ultimatum system designed albeit more subtly than gun to head. So I almost like people to suffer a bit more if they can find another way because money is 100% not the way
Yes food etc and all that design to make people give up finding another way by locking horns / diving all-into a system, but not neo-slavery at the end.
CREATING a way to give back (not just paying money) can help chip away back at 'The Man' and the same reason for everything else that will be corrected as result (more and % people doing what they love even in their spare time as a lot are wasting it or not taking up my services as another pair of hands or designing our own better industrial conveyor belt design, or whatever)...
From real money-free work (teaching people better mentality / therapy of sorts) to sharing houses - doing things so we're not paying over and over for same thing and expecting y/our children to pay again for the same or smaller space / time existance).
Community however we can.
