I wonder... Are the parents who claim teaching should not be political the same parents who seek to remove books from the curriculum?

@garyackerman Yes, because that's the same political statement in a two-party system.

Progress happens when we can weigh all facets of an issue and enact changes from what we learn. Removing books is therefore anti-progressive politics.

Keeping a space supposedly politics-free means that no discussion can happen there that would lead to change, whereas keeping things the same doesn't require such discussions. A politics-free space is a politically conservative space.

@garyackerman And heaven forbid that one should teach about science, such as big bang theory, or how mammals reproduce.
