This Chinese EV pickup is pretty interesting. It is 2WD only conversion using a setup very similar to the SAIC MAXUS T90EV, that's to say a rear-mounted electric motor attached straight to the differential housing.
Seems hodgepodge and low tech, however, what I like about this approach is that it means that manufacturers can go EV sooner by converting their existing trucks easily.
Despite the hodgepodge approach, the range for this truck is 453-kilometer, and the power and torque are 177 hp and 450 Nm which is similar to other mid-size trucks with 4-cylinder turbo-diesels.
As for the looks, yes! It is in fact very much just an old Nissan Navara and it is a Zhengzhou-Nissan joint venture.
I personally want a 4x4 truck as I do off-road. But for those people who don't something like this is fine. I don't think there's anything wrong with the low-tech EV approach. Particularly not for the commercial market.
As for the name, this is the Dongfeng Rich 6!
As a Mechanical Engineer, honestly I'm horrified.
Enormous power wires just dangling off to the axle-mounted motor?
😬
@nlarson830 no idea 🤷♂️ but this last one I posted does pass European safety standards and is for sale in Europe.
