I vividly remember my grandad’s cars when I was a kid. He had a Silverado, a Monte Carlo, and an El Camino…. He wasn’t really a Chevy guy or anything overall, he just happened to have a few Chevies back then. These aren’t pics of his actual cars, but they are as close as I can find online. #MastodonCars #WeirdCarMastodon #classiccars
@gpowerf Cool 😀 My father‘s Car and my grandfather‘s were like this. My other grandfather had the same as a station wagon
@MartinWdd Travant? I saw a few I. Germany I think! 😄
@gpowerf Trabant 601 S. From East Germany… 600ccm (<37cui), 26 HP.
@MartinWdd 600cc! Wow! The cars I showed had V8s, I think the Monte Carlo had a 305ci (5L) and the other two 350ci (5.7L). But I’m not 100% certain of that.
@gpowerf Big difference between engines in US an EU. Most cars now have between 1600 and 2000 ccm, I think.
Funny fact: my work contact in the US has the same car as I do 🙂
@MartinWdd these are my two in the UK… the truck is much bigger and has a 1.9L turbo diesel, the blue one has a 5L V8. The truck is great, very frugal.
@MartinWdd it’s fine 😂 not fast by modern standards but still corners well and kinda sounds cool. Impractical on bumpy roads though, stiff suspension.
@MartinWdd pretty much the same thing. KITT was the Pontiac version of the same car. Nose and back were different but essentially the rest was the same.
@gpowerf What's yours? I assumed it also to be a Pontiac...
@MartinWdd Chevy Camaro IROC-Z.
@gpowerf That's pretty cool, I just found it on Wikipedia... So it's a model between 1985 and 1990?
@MartinWdd mine is a 1990. The last of the IROCs.
@gpowerf re you from UK?
@MartinWdd originally? Venezuela, now UK.
@gpowerf Cool 🙂 I like British cars like Mini - my 2nd car was a Mini 1000 Flame Red 🙂 ¿te gusta vivir en el Reino Unido?
@MartinWdd bueno si. Tengo muchísimo tiempo aquí 😄 and I never owned a Mini, but I drove one. Interesting car, the steering is very direct, fun drive. FWIW, the Camaro also have very quick steering compared to most cars.
@gpowerf Yes the steering of a Mini is very cool - but only the old ones, not the BMW Minis. I loved that Mini...
My kids love my Tesla. It can fart, and it accelerates like a Rollercoaster...
@MartinWdd yeah the BMW ones are not my sort of thing either. And I’m sure the Tesla goes like a bullet 😁
@gpowerf Old Minis are the most classic cars. Like Mercedes 190, BMW E30... But my favorite classic car is Porsche 924
@MartinWdd I have too many to fully list, all the way from Auburn Speedster 851s, Datsun 240Zs, Jeep Wagoneers, and Plymouth Cudas.
@gpowerf I can easily agree with JP sports cars an US muscle cars. I'm not a fan ov pre-war-models or SUVs, but woodie cars are pretty cool. The coolest woodie car for me is the Buick Roadmaster
@MartinWdd practical things too 💪 shame big wagons don’t exist anymore.
@gpowerf Unfortunately, a Buick Roadmaster won't fit in German streets or parking spaces...
But in fact I realized that, after I preferred station wagons for a long time (I needed them as I have 2 Kids), now I prefer sedans. I also like small classic sedans, like the Opel Corsa /Vauxhall Nova, or Renault 7
@MartinWdd in parts of Asia small sedans are very popular. Lots of small sedans in the Philippines. SUV and vans are more common overall probably, but small sedans come third there.
@gpowerf Big Wagons were replaced by big SUVs...
@MartinWdd true. Very true. And I won’t deny that LWB full size SUVs like Suburbans are hugely practical too. But there was something magical and so sort of uncool about the wagons that it made them cool.
@gpowerf I was a big fan of Knight Rider in the late 1980s 🙂
