I’ve not had a TV connected to a receiver or cable service in over 10 years. Do you have live TV at home?

@gpowerf@qoto.org I do have a live TV but haven't used it in months because the batteries in the remote have leaked and I've not bothered yet cleaning up the mess. Shows you how little TV I actually watch, lol.

@trinsec I have zero interest in having it. Every time I go somewhere and people watch live TV I try not to react, but this is what I see:

@gpowerf@qoto.org Maybe you should stop visiting locations which only have black and white televisions? 😋

@trinsec I’d relate more to watching YouTube on a monochrome display more than I do watching stuff live on a schedule 😂

@gpowerf@qoto.org Hehe. Well, I usually only used the live TV when I want to sit on the couch and eat my meal. Sometimes something amusing passes by. Eventually. But also some programmes that you can't find on YouTube or Netflix or any other streaming service are not too bad to watch, like a public programme about the country and such. Although there are alternatives, but it's not guaranteed that the subs work there and their site kinda sucks.

Right now? Nah, not watching any TV. My parents do watch TV a lot though, including watching back in time (that's useful, not really bound to a schedule that much anymore) and lots of recording. They have a physical TV guide that they scrounge for anything interesting, heh. I have to admit that the modern settop boxes makes life a bit easier of not having to show up on time and you can watch back almost any programme up until X hours back.

@trinsec my mother doesn’t have a TV and she’s not had once since my dad died. She just never got round to getting a new one.

My mother in law though, she watches game shows! And she does so willingly and for free. You’d have to either pay me or have a court order to get me to do that.

@gpowerf@qoto.org Ew. No, my mother mostly watches stuff like Rail Away, and detectives. Then they watch news, some sports (tennis), and some game shows where you actually have to think (De Slimste Mens (the smartest human)). And also some random cultural programmes. And she records movies so she can watch movies at her own time. So it's not that bad overall.

@gpowerf@qoto.org That news thing is a bit annoying. Whenever I visit them and the news is on, and they tell me that this is pretty important news, I'm always like 'ehh, I already know it from the website...'. News on fixed schedules on TV is always behind. 😋
