This is not surprising. Phasing out ICE cars, or gas boilers takes planning and preparation. Words alone cannot meet targets, some effort is required. I can sit here telling everyone that by 2030, I plan to be a competitive marathon runner, but the important thing isn't the talking, it's the preparation. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-66857551
@ouij indeed. EVs are objectively nice, with lots of torque, super quick acceleration, incredibly quiet, and can be refuelled at home. However, it's tough to come to terms that eventually replacing your current £30k SUV or truck with something sort of equivalent will cost you £70k and it isn't exactly equivalent because it struggles to tow without running out of juice fairly quickly.
@gpowerf doing so imposes discrete costs on identifiable people in the name of diffuse benefits. It’s sometimes exhausting to have to explain that people being asked to give things up are going to ask for something in return other than a vague sense of having done a good thing …and figuring that out takes time
