I can't see anything on the quoted post. Because I have my own instance and I haven't actively federated with any others, my mastodon is relatively quiet. It's interesting. There is enough activity that I don't feel like I'm invisible. But I can tell I'm missing quite a lot.

I'm going to start exploring what it means to bring more content into my sphere.

Sorry. I can see the post. I was saying that I can't see the vast majority of replies. I follow @mekkaokereke, so I see him. The majority of the conversation is invisible to me.

What's weird to me is that federation should mean that you have your own space. Does it feel like most of the people who complain about who they don't wanna see are on mastodon.social? Because it's closer to a centralized melting pot than an instance with a personality?

@polotek My impression (and that's all it is, so it could be selective memory) is that more of such complaints come from people on smaller instances who seem to expect to be more surrounded by certain types of people. Whereas it seems like people on mastodon.social have to accept that there are going to be lots of different types of people and they'll just have to ignore, block, or mute them as necessary.
