I just discovered that the #Fediverse includes much more than just the various #Mastodon instances out there and now I feel like if I tried to explain that to someone coming over from the bird site or some other big social that they'd think I was absolutely insane. To be honest, I kind of feel a little insane knowing that from Mastodon, I can access and browse content from platforms like #Diaspora, #Friendica, #Peertube, and more, not that I know how to do any of that. https://fediverse.party/
@pyutaros That's the cool thing, you don't need to know. And, most of the time, you won't even realise it.
@josemanuel This is true, and most people won't understand how it works. I wouldn't have known or cared if not for a cantankerous post I came across that was making light of the fact that some journalists coming over to Mastodon didn't know the difference between it and the Fediverse. Then I was like, hey, I didn't know that either. In any case, I think it's probably a big ask to expect people who can hardly get their heads around instannces to understand the Fediverse. At least not right away.
@pyutaros It's not that complicated, but it's easier to understand it by experiencing it than by being shown or told about it.
@josemanuel hahaha. I have no idea what that's supposed to mean, but it's funny. But we're not talking about my Mastodon instance or Mastodon's network of servers in general. We're talking about the entire federated network of platforms and applications, which even for an IT professional of 20+ years. is kind of complicated to think about.
