@jeffcliff It's feasible, what isn't feasible is to get completely rid of poettering software these days, in 2017 it was doable tho.

@mangeurdenuage Slackware doesn't install systemd and PipeWire will replace pulseaudio soon. Even today you can still have an ALSA-only system. It is perfectly feasible.

@josemanuel @mangeurdenuage @jeffcliff fwiw, you can already replace pulseaudio with pipewire (/usr/sbin/pipewire-enable.sh) and it works pretty well

@bonifartius True, but, if I'm not mistaken, it still needs PA to be installed, sadly.

BTW, I didn't know that script existed. I use one that does the same at login time, but this is great. Thanks!

@josemanuel @jeffcliff @mangeurdenuage i haven't tried to remove the pulse packages, i guess there is so much stuff which links against it that there will for sure be breakage. with pipewire enabled there at least is not pulseaudio process to be found :)
