This is what happens when one project takes over all discussion of an open standard and becomes synonymous with it. If you have a problem with #mastodon, apparently you’re only alternative is #bluesky. There are so many #fediverse projects that most people don’t know about that provide a much better experience. Stop using fediverse as a synonym for mastodon.

@0x1C3B00DA Nobody uses Fediverse as a synonym for Mastodon. It's literally the opposite.

@josemanuel What? People say “The fediverse doesn’t allow post longer than 500 characters” or “Everybody on the fediverse demands CWs for …” all the time. Or they’ll say mastodon when they’re talking about fediverse-wide issues.

Media articles about mastodon or the fediverse will use the two terms interchangeably, even when they’re specifically referring to mastodon.

@0x1C3B00DA The post you were referring to didn't even mention the word Fediverse. I don't even remember seeing it in any part of the thread.

Most people talk about Mastodon, the Mastodon Network, etc. People who use Fediverse know what they're talking about and it's not Mastodon.

@josemanuel People do both. I wasn’t saying that post was using the words synonymously. I was saying the years of mastodon marketing/hegemony have led to the issue that post is talking about, i.e. people leaving the fediverse or preferring a closed network because their experience with mastodon put them off the fediverse as a whole.
