@coolboymew @SPCmovienight for a blatant Star Wars (and a bit of The Seven Samurai) rip-off with a low budget, it had a couple of small surprises, like the vulva-shaped space ships and other Freudian bullshit. but overall, it was a badly-written, badly-acted, pointless junk pile full of tired sci-fi cliches. you were right to leave early.

as far as blatant Star Wars clones go, Starchaser: The Legend of Orin is probably the best one. but chat was divided about Battle Beyond the Stars; some enjoyed the cheesiness, some found it tedious.

@noyoushutthefuckupdad It's not a rip-off, it's an adaptation (in Spain the title was even translated as The Magnificent Seven of Space).

And, while I unironically respect your opinion, all cinephiles that I know, even the most pedantic among us, love it. Maybe it's a movie you have to watch as a child to fully enjoy it, I don't know.

Also, it was a John Sayles' screenplay. Great writer and an even better director later in his career.
