I like the game Dizzy on the ZX Spectrum, but one thing is there's too much having to walk around going on.

It's like: when you find an item, why can't you just keep hold of it for the rest of the game? Why do I have to keep jumps this way and that all the time?

@lydiaconwell Memory limits, probably. The ZX Spectrum was a very limited machine. It's a bit of a miracle one could play videogames at all with it. Programmers back then used every part of the buffalo, so to speak. That mindset is very rare these days, sadly.

@josemanuel I'm so very impressed with what people did back then. I have no clue about coding but it's like they just type in a load of words and a game appears.

They didn't really know much about making the games fun though.

@lydiaconwell Back in the day, they were a lot of fun, but they relied a lot on stuff outside the game itself (for example, the instruction manual came in the box, so no in-game tutorials for you. Same with the maps and even the story), which makes playing them now more challenging.

In restrospect, it felt great to fill the technical shortcomings of the game with imagination (which explains how Lara Croft could be thought of sexy back then). Also, playing with friends made everything fun.
