@kcrca on a lighter note - I have a question regarding the research on defect density:

leshatton.org/IEEE_Soft_97b.ht

I enjoyed Les' approach (stumbled across the paper in the art of unix) but haven't found anything that followed on this theme; are there any "modern" papers that take a similar, empirical approach to component size and defect density, particularly w.r.t. subroutines/functions?

@skells I mean, good question, but I got no clue, that's not my bag. I mean, that's pretty common wisdom in my circle, but I've never seen real research on it.

@kcrca more experience in physics than coding so it caught my attention, especially when his conclusions carried across languages/domains

it would be interesting to see where one could hone common wisdom with this sort of research, the further i get through art of unix the more convinced i am that you could use the underlying philosophy outside of coding
