Tldr putin is in full control over the church and the church does whatever he says or he threatens them and/or forces them to comply.

Orthodox Church put an emphasis on being you know Orthodox, the tradition of the Church is still the same as it was in 1054.

There's some influence of Russian government in the Russian Orthodox Church that's true. But Putin didn't control the Church, they had some disagreements over a couple of thing in the past.
The Yeltsin years were really bad for Russia and Russians. Almost anything would be better than that. But Putin is actually competent.
