There's something so incredibly gaslighty about having people defend actions that prolong the pandemic by saying they want the pandemic to be over.
I DO TOO, DUDE. A lot more than you do, in fact, because I'm willing to maintain drastically changed behaviour for years to achieve that.

The sides are not "I love pandemics" vs "I don't like pandemics". They're "I want to pretend the pandemic is over while ensuring it never ends" vs "I want it to ACTUALLY end."

@thesunshinesushi I agree the pandemic isnt over.. but sadly the idea that you can eliminate the disease by observing certain practices just isnt reality either. No amount of mask wearing or washing hands will ever make COVID go away, the same way thatthe Flu and the common Cold will never go away.

Best you can do is wear hazmat gear for years on end till it finally dwindles to insignificant levels and then when you finally take off the hazmat COVID will spread like wildfire again.

The nature of how vaccines on COVID work means we will **never** eliminate it like we did small pox. It is here to stay, forever. Eliminating it isnt an option so only thing left to decide is how we want to respond to the fact that it is here for the long run.

Sincerely yours, a COVID research scientist.

@freemo I would love to see what you've published or put your name on as a covid researcher

@a_cup_of_sugar Sure thing, you can just search my name, but when im back home I can link you directly.

I am the lead over at Scentech right now. We analyze VoCs in COVID patients and I am the one who made it possible to classify covid from only a breath sample. Prior to that I worked with the DoD and invented an algorithm pre-COVID used to modeling disease proliferation.

@freemo you're a machine learning expert by all search results. I don't see anything about you being a covid research scientist

@a_cup_of_sugar I literally run a COVID research lab right now at Scentech and just told you two examples, my discovery of a system able to detect COVID from VoC as breath and the discovery of an algorithm used in disease proliferation.

@freemo You said to search you up, so I did. Your profile at your company does not mention anything about covid, and your Google Scholar page also has nothing about covid.

You're "search my name" approach is working against you.

@a_cup_of_sugar Did you happen to notice the fact that my title at the company is head of all STEM operations (CIO) and internal operations (EVP) and that the **only** thing the company does is COVID research right now (though in the past we were working on cancer too)?

Like I said when I get home I am more than happy to link you to some COVID specific stuff.

More importantly you seem very strangly antagonistic... are you this confrontational everytime you find out someone is in the research field?

@freemo I'm antagonistic against anyone who shouts down covid protections, like you did. I've never seen any other covid research scientists (ones who have actual covid research under their name) do this.

@a_cup_of_sugar Please quote the part where I "shout down covid protections", now your behavior sounds even more strange.

@a_cup_of_sugar And what phrase in there do you think represents "shouting down covid protections"... You mean the part where I explicitly state such protections can dwindle the disease down to insignificant levels?

Are you seriously going to say that you never heard a scientist claim COVID isnt going away? Clearly you are very disconnected from the scientific community since the idea that COVID is here to stay is the overwhelming majority opinion in my expiernce.

@freemo "You mean the part where I explicitly state such protections can dwindle the disease down to insignificant levels? " Which you undermined in the very next sentence.

"Clearly you are very disconnected from the scientific community since the idea that COVID is here to stay is the overwhelming majority opinion in my expiernce."

I literally never said otherwise.

@freemo Anyway, I still cannot find anything showing you, Jeffrey Phillips Freeman, are a covid research scientist. The breath test page on your company's website doesn't even name you. The studies don't name you. Your own profile pages don't name covid.

@a_cup_of_sugar

Then feel free to wait until I am home and as I said I will be more than happy to link you directly to some of my work... since clearly being the head of a company which exclusively works on COVID research is a bit too ambiguous for you.

@freemo You being the HEAD of a company does not mean you are a RESEARCHER. So many heads of companies aren't even directly involved in the work their employees do. So yes, you actually do need to prove you're a researcher. Because right now it just looks like you're claiming credit for your employee's work.

I only see two studies with your name attached and they have both been in recruiting status since 2016 and 2018, before the covid-19 pandemic.

@a_cup_of_sugar I am not the head of the company (CEO) I am the head of all STEM operations at the company (CIO, specifically Clinical, Data Science, and Analytical Chemistry teams). As I said if you arent capable of searching the studies we published and seeing my name I have no objection to getting it to you when I am at my computer and not my phone. Just really bizarre how assumptive you are considering my title as the head of STEM at a company exclusive to COVID research.

Try talking to people and having productive conversations rather than jumping in with the toxicity next time, you might actually get somewhere.

For the record me and other people working on COVID are pretty damn sick of laypeople coming in with their anti-science crap and starting drama every time someone tries to have a candid conversation (you know, actual science).... "Oh my god you said masks wont solve all our problems and wont eliminate covid, clearly your a fraud!"... you are part of the problem, despite the fact that I'm sure you think your helping.

@freemo you entertained this for too long. Can't feed the trolls. Then we're just Twitter. You got the creds, just tune it out and get back to it when it's convenient. The world won't end if some "cat lady" (her words) loses her fucking mind at you.
