And there I was, stuck with 720kb DD floppies on my Mirage sampler! 😭
@axwax @m2m @hilljam @controlfreak ah yes! I used an Akai S900 which took oooh 1.44Mb’s but still I could only fit samples fir three songs on one disk. So every three songs the singer had to do a talky bit while I fiddled with the sampler 😂🎹 ah those were the days…
@hilljam @axwax @m2m @controlfreak brilliant!
@hilljam @axwax @m2m @controlfreak overheating was an issue with any tech back then. I remember our bass player who was also a video VJ was doing visuals at the Sub Club in Glasgow and had fans on everything, full blast. He went to use his lighter to see something and it would not spark. There was not enough oxygen in the air for combustion yet the floor was full of clubbers giving it the little box big box
@lavenderlens @axwax @m2m @controlfreak aaaahhhh fantastic 😂😂🤘🤘
and then flash forward to 2023, and here i am running our entire show — backing tracks, 4K video, and live softsynths — off a baseline spec M1 Air WITH NO FAN
@hilljam @axwax @m2m @controlfreak isn’t that amazing?! If we had known then what was to come… just recently upgraded to M1 MBP myself but my day job, coding, doesn't even scratch the surface of its potential with the likes of Photopea, iMovie, GarageBand
@lavenderlens hahah 😂😂😂 this anecdote is brilliant! @hilljam @axwax @controlfreak
@lavenderlens @axwax @m2m @controlfreak it felt so high tech! i had a mac plus sitting on top of the rack running the show … for precisely one show, during which the pitfalls of using a mac plus live made themselves apparent … it was replaced promptly for live duties with a roland mc-500 🤘
