He was clearly the bad guy.
I could see that his actions were destructive and led to a dead end.
Then I looked at him, and I saw... myself. From 10 years ago.

Through actions that made sense,
and means that were available,
by going towards a naive
yet noble goal,

he proceeded
to slowly
destroy
everything
he tried
to protect.

Should he have known better?
Would I have known better?
Well, *he* wasn't 15 anymore.

And then happened something nobody expected.

The past of his dreams
came back to life
briefly
and it was awesome
but he wasn't in it.

He made his dream come true, but in his dream there was no place for him.

And predictably,
it fell apart a month later.
After all, it was a dream.
An idealistic vision
while fun
unsustainable.

tl;dr pissnet was the best thing ever, and it's sad that the one who destroyed freenode couldn't be a part of it.

wait pissnet is still alive? and has 102 servers?

I have no idea about any of this. I migrated from freenode to liberachat.

@lucifargundam well in the middle of the freenode takeover, when rasengan was introducing his draconian policies while former freenode staff were setting up libera, a bunch of nerds took rasengan's stated idea of "making irc more decentralized, where everyone can connect a server" and decided to make it real as a joke, creating their own network called "pissnet". It was very wet and cold but that didn't stop everyone capable of running an ircd from joining.

@lucifargundam because of the common goal of operating an IRC network and having fun in the process, and the ability and effort to run an ircd being a very effective filter, #opers on pissnet had the best nerd discussions I've seen on the internet in the last decade.
