Plecant suprise to see more youtubers pop up on the fediverse. Quite glad to see @dubesinhower join us now
@Twelve Haha, glad to be here. I like learning about technology, so I figure why not see what Mastodon is all about
@dubesinhower @Twelve While you're at it, you might be interested in PeerTube: it's the YouTube to Twitter's Mastodon (and it's just as much a part of the Fediverse; you can follow PeerTube accounts from Mastodon).
@wizzwizz4 @dubesinhower Id love to see more youtubers test the waters with peertube, I have my own test inctence, but nothing to upload atm. Not sure how easy it will be to run tho.
@Twelve @wizzwizz4 I’d love to, but it may be expensive to self host
@dubesinhower @Twelve Maybe – but you might be able to find somebody to host you. You're a "small-ish" YouTuber (says I, who's about three orders of magnitude less popular), so it wouldn't be too much for a mid-size instance.
The main trouble would be if you depend on advertising revenue. The main benefit would be that you wouldn't have to care about the YouTube algorithm any more.

Why not torrent your own videos?
Exclusive bonus content to those who share the load.
@Twelve @lucifargundam @dubesinhower Yeah: the web client does P2P sharing by default, but you can also use a desktop torrent client. (It's not BitTorrent, because it needs to work with web browsers, but it's similar.)
@lucifargundam @wizzwizz4 @dubesinhower if you upload videos to peertube, it should be psossible for people to download them and seed them if I rember correctly.
