How do we gently encourage people to use alt text?

I’m trying to get in the habit of not boosting posts that have inaccessible images. There are times I want to say “hey, I love this and wanted to boost it, but there’s no alt text”—but I’m not convinced it’s the best approach. If somebody’s response is “eff off, who asked you?” then we haven’t accomplished anything useful.

What works best to encourage without being annoying or making folks defensive?

@tkinias
speaking from experience, to add alt text takes time.... and i never actively think about doing it.

if there were a way to automatically add it, that would help.

@lucifargundam
it’s a mental shift to remember to do it if the UI doesn’t actively prompt you for it

if i ever get enough free time and drive, i'll see if i can add a feature to auto-add alt text- or at least allow auto-mention caption bots
