This is true, and (IMO) also insane. For example, the place I used to rent in college started at $650 (in 2007'ish) and is now going for $1300. Granted it's been a few years, but wages have not kept up. The only way to keep at entry level is continuous moving and you still lose ground.

Rent wasn't made to benefit renters- it's a market for landlords to capitalize on. Hence Monopoly's original game name was "The LandLords Game".
